Our Story In The World of Wine
Quinta do Gravançal was born from a dream of entrepreneurship that our father, Armindo Manuel Rodrigues, intended to develop in the late 1980s.
Between many of his friends he looked for information about the climate, the varieties, the sun exposure... And among the available land, he moved to this location, between the lands of Abelheira and Gravançal. Exhibited in “abicheiro”, as they say, facing north – predominantly – but also east and west, protecting and enhancing, in harmony, the vitality and longevity of the vineyards for the production of very high quality grapes.
Classified with the letter A, in a variation of elevations above 150m, 3 red grape varieties were privileged: Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, to which we added Touriga Nacional. Of the white varieties, Rabigato, Viosinho and Malvazia-fina prevail.
The "terroir" was chosen properly, resulting in more than 25 successful harvests.
After reaching the “wine growing age”, we are now taking a step so that this old dream, which we have transformed into a company called Quinta do Gravançal, can now produce its own table wines with its own brand – Mimu’s -.
And why Mimus? Because that's how this project was created. With great affection, dedication, sharing and mutual help from Family and Friends. In Portuguese, Mimos (mimus) stands for "showing affection".
The letring is inspired by the extraordinary calligraphy of our mother, which, with the “rhythmic” and harmonious movement, reminds us of the hills and valleys of the Douro Superior.
